March 26, 2017  3.4  Colorado Cat Voyage Date

Today was an interesting day.  So many new things to see and try to remember.  The first thing
that I noticed was the water.  There wasn't a breeze, current or any movement.  It was like running on
ice.  The water looked like velvet and was the same color as the sky.  You couldn't really tell what was water or sky.  The next thing were the birds.  They fly fly in small flocks of maybe 20 but close to the water in a straight line.  There had to be at least 10 flocks that fleew by.  The most unusual thing I noticed was the lack of houses.  Between the west coast and south Florida there are no end to the houses and high rises.  Not today.  It was like Florida when it was discovered in the 1500's.  We went by the Merritt Island National Wildlife Preserve, and the Kennedy Space center, so that is probably while there were no people.  Today reminded of me of driving across Kansas and the vast flat land with nothing to see.  We went into a small cut called the Hang Canal cut.  That was one busy place.  Big boats, little, swimmers, fishermen, manatees, and whatever could float.  A few days ago we were where the 1% lived, today we were where the 99% lived and played.  They called southeast Florida the gold coast.  Today was the aluminum coast,  pontoon boats and trailers.
We made it to New Smyrna Beach, 71 miles and called it quits.  I asked to anchor close to shore but this is too close.  Tomorrow we will try for Daytona,  20 miles away.
